Samantha Ballard is a professional harpist, recording artist, and arranger based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Samantha was four years old when she began taking piano lessons, and added flute and saxophone to her list of instruments as she moved through middle and high school. It wasn’t until she was 15 that she began playing the harp, the instrument that would shape the rest of her musical career.
Samantha completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of British Columbia under the tutelage of Elizabeth Volpé Bligh. She has also participated in masterclasses by Alice Giles, Maria Palatine, and Yolanda Kondonassis and attended two World Harp Congresses.
Samantha now lives and works her hometown of Winnipeg where she enjoys a varied and exciting career. She performs regularly at weddings and other events and maintains a studio of harp and piano students. Samantha has performed with local ensembles such as Camerata Nova, MUSAIC, Women of Note, and U of M choirs, and internationally in Europe and South America. Samantha was also a semi-finalist at the 2018 OSM Manulife Competition in Montréal.
It was during preparation for the competition that Samantha realized what she is most passionate about; finding joy through music and the harp, and spreading it to others. Currently, she is focused on creating arrangements of beloved soundtracks from video games, anime, and film, as well as composing her own music in a new age-soundtrack inspired style. She has garnered a large following on YouTube, where her videos have been viewed nearly 5 million times, and she livestreams regularly on Twitch in an informal performance setting where she can connect directly with her audience.
Samantha has released a Christmas album, “On Christmas Night,” as well as several singles, and has published several of her arrangements and compositions for harp.
